Joan J. (Maurer) Eiberger, 87, of Peru passed away peacefully on September 10, 2021at Heritage Healthcare in Mendota.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Tuesday in St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle with Rev. J.A. Small officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is assisting the family with arrangements.
Joanie was born in La Salle on February 4, 1934 to Leo and Veronica (Jesiolowski) Trempalla. She graduated from St. Patrick’s School in La Salle, St. Joseph’s Commercial School, and later in life, earned an Associate’s Degree from IVCC. She married Richard Maurer and then married Eldon Eiberger.
Joanie worked at Westclox, EUC, Holiday Inn, Sam’s Steakhouse, Illinois Secretary of State, and retired with the Federal Court of Appeals Social Security division at the tender age of 77.
Joanie had a lifetime of various personal accomplishments which included her love of singing. She performed at church services and various functions. Later, she became active in theatre where she performed in many productions. She was named by the NewsTribune “Woman of the Year” for her leadership role in the Annual Style Show put on by the Civic Women’s Club. She and her husband also made a yearly trip with baked goodies to the Great Lakes Naval Hospital. Her family was her source of happiness and pride.
Joanie is survived by her son Mark (Karen) Maurer of Peru; daughter Sharon (Paul) Henry of Mendota; four grandchildren Mark Maurer Jr., James (Kim) Maurer, Lisa (Craig) Znaniecki, and Erica Henry; four great grandchildren Logan and Leah Maurer, and Carter and Raegan Znaniecki.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eldon Eiberger, parents, and her brother Donald Trempalla.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Illinois Valley Animal Rescue or donor’s choice.
