Jean L. Matchus

Jean L. Matchus, 90, a resident of Heritage Woods in Ottawa and formerly of Utica, passed away peacefully at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa on March 8, 2025 surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday March 12, at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with Rev. Michael Driscoll officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Utica.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until time of services.

Mrs. Matchus was born in Chicago on June 26, 1934 to William and Anjean (Devries) Clausing.  She married John A. Matchus on October 1, 1955.  She worked at Kay’s Jewerly Store in the Peru Mall for many years.

Mrs. Matchus enjoyed being on Facebook, shopping and activities at Heritage Woods.  She loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice (Cesare) Bratta of Lanark and Peggy (Ray) Seghi of Peru; two sons, William (Margie) Matchus of New Lenox and John (Tasey) Matchus of Nebraska; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson due in June; 1 sister Pam (Neil) Cook of Florida and 1 brother William (Peg) Clausing of Arizona; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband John on August 6, 2013, 2 grandsons, Michael and Kyle, 1 great-granddaughter Chloe, 2 brothers, Dirk and Robert Clausing.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
