James F. Meyer, 90, of Peru, passed away January 10, 2024 in Illinois Veterans Home in La Salle.
There will be no visitation or services. Cremation rites will be accorded. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is entrusted with funeral arrangements.
Mr. Meyer was born on April 7, 1933 in Peru to Harry and Olga (Siedlitz) Meyer. He married Florence Nieslawski on January 15, 1955 in St. Valentine ‘s Church in Peru.
He graduated from La Salle-Peru High School in 1950, then joined the United States Navy from 1951 until 1954, serving during the Korean War. After the service, he worked as a tool and die maker until his retirement. Jim was an Eagle Scout, a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru and Peru Rescue Station from 1948 to 1962. He also was a member of the Westclox fire brigade, Liberty Fire Company #1 for 38 years and a charter member of Peru Sportsman Club.
Mr. Meyer is survived by two sons, Dale Meyer of Belvidere and David (Lee Ann) Meyer of Spring Valley; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Florence, one daughter Mary Ellen Meyer, two brothers and one grandson Joshua Tevis in infancy.
Memorials may be directed to Illinois Veterans Home at La Salle.
