Henry McClenning Obituary


Henry A. McClenning, 81, of Tonica, died December 29, 2019 in Manor Court of Peru. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday in the Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Tonica with Military Honors by the Tonica American Legion. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 PM until time of Services.

Mr. McClenning was born in Patterson on February 2, 1938 to Basil and Edna (Benton) McClenning. He served with the US Navy from 1957 until 1961. He married Stephanie Sydlowski on November 29, 1958. Henry graduated with a Bachelor in Teaching from Illinois State University then Grace Theological Seminary in Wenona Lake Indiana and received his Master in Education at Ball State University. Mr. McClenning was a High School Agriculture teacher and was in the Agri business. He served as the Tonica Village Clerk and part-time pastor of Streator Primitive Methodist Church for the last 10 years. 

Henry is survived by his wife Stephanie of Tonica, two sons; Mark McClenning of Tonica and Dale (Daphne) McClenning of Indianapolis. Two grandsons; Jonathon (Emily) McClenning and James (Alyssa) McClenning, one great-granddaughter Illyria and three sisters; Samantha Bailey of Streator, Mary McClenning of Oglesby, and Linda Scalf of Danvers.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be directed to the Tonica Fire Department.
