Germaine Sons Obituary

Germaine Agnes Sons, 94, of Oglesby, formerly of Leonore and Tonica, passed away September 21, 2022 at Heritage Healthcare in Peru.

Memorial mass will be 11:00 Saturday October 1, 2022 at SS. Peter and Paul Church in Leonore with Rev. J.A. Small officiating. Burial will be private in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in La Salle. The Hurst Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Sons was born in Streator on November 18, 1927 to Henry and Rose (Juenger) Salz. She married Harold Schafer in 1946. She then married Ira Jack Sons in 1978. Along with being a farm wife and mother, she was a CNA, LPN, and Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician.

Mrs. Sons was very active in the church and a member of Holy Family Church in Oglesby and SS. Peter and Paul in Leonore.

Mrs. Sons is survived by eight children: Rose Fluech of Leonore, Betty (Stephen) Davis of Brooksville, FL, Robert (Shelia) Schafer of Houston, MO, Donald (Debra) Schafer of North Las Vegas, NV, Michael (Laurie) Schafer of Waupun, WI, Lynn (Tony) Shirley of Tonica, William (Sandra) Schafer of Hancock, WI, and Marlene Mertens of Wisconin Rapids, WI; seven stepchildren; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; one brother Floyd Salz of Tonica; and one sister Imelda “Mutz” Whalen of Streator.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ira Jack Sons; former husband Harold Schafer; sisters Irene Watson and Virginia Thomas; and brothers Victor Salz, Eugene Salz, Jerome Salz, Lloyd Salz, and Henry Salz.

Memorials may be directed to Holy Family, Oglesby or SS. Peter and Paul, Leonore.
