Geraldine Eichelkraut, 88, of Oglesby, passed away in Manor Court of Peru on January 27, 2023.
Funeral services were Tuesday at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle.
Geraldine was born in Oglesby on July 25, 1934 to Robert and Mary (Murtaugh) Steele. Geraldine married William Eichelkraut, who passed away in 1963, in Oglesby. She then met her life partner and best friend, Alen Ruppert.
Geraldine liked telling stories of when she owned Gerri's Tap on E. Walnut St. in Oglesby. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, doing puzzles, and bowling with her sister-in-law, Shirley. She was never in short supply of zucchini bread and could be found every evening with a cup of coffee at her kitchen table watching Wheel of Fortune.
Geraldine is survived by two sons, Robert (Roberta) Eichelkraut of Lacon and Ron Eichelkraut of Oglesby; five grandsons Jeff Eichelkraut of North Dakota, William Eichelkraut of Lacon, Nicolas (Amanda) Eichelkraut of Sparland, Brad (Patty) Eichelkraut of Oglesby, and Dan (Andrea) Eichelkraut of Oglesby; five great-grandchildren Macy, Charlie, Rylin, Remi, Evie, and a future great-grandson on the way.
Shs was preceeded in death by her parents; her husband William; her life partner Alen; three brothers Leonard “Peanuts,” Doug “Butch,” and Robert Steele; and daughter-in-law Cheryl Eichelkraut.
