Gerald “Jerry” Hanck, 87, of Peru, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at the Illinois Veterans Home at La Salle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 15, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Shrine in La Salle with Rev. J.A. Small officiating. Deacon Jack Kusek and Sister Mary Beth Bromer will assist with the services. Burial will be at the Ladd Cemetery with full military services conducted by the La Salle/Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group. Visitation will be in the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle has been entrusted with his arrangements.
Jerry was born June 10, 1938 at St. Mary’s Hospital in La Salle to August and Margaret (Schultz) Hanck. He served with the United States Army. He married Joan Riota on February 1, 1964, and together they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage.
Jerry worked as a liquor salesman for more than 40 years. During his career, he worked for Consumer’s, ACM, and later retired from Mautino’s Distribution in Spring Valley. He made many great memories working alongside Tony and Mark Mautino.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Joan; his son, Randy (Kim) Hanck; and two grandchildren, Emily (Kyle) Pytel and Kyle Hanck.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family sincerely thanks the staff at the La Salle VA Home, OSF Hospital, and OSF Hospice for the kind and compassionate care given to Jerry.
