Gary Quesse Obituary

Gary William Quesse, 74, of Peru, passed away peacefully at home on April 13, 2026 surrounded by his loving family after a 14-year battle with a rare liver disease.

Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Saturday, April 18, at First Baptist Church of LaSalle with Pastor Jared Cochran officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home has been entrusted with Gary’s arrangements. A private burial will be held at a later time at St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle.

He was born in La Salle on December 15, 1951. Gary was the son of Bill and Rita (Essl) Quesse. He graduated from LaSalle-Peru Township High School in 1970, where he was a proud member of the LP Hall of Fame basketball team that advanced to the state tournament under Coach Jack Margenthaler. He went on to graduate from Western Illinois University in 1974.

Gary co-owned and operated Quesse Moving and Storage, a family business, until it closed on November 1, 2020.

On October 29, 1977, Gary married Debbie Nosalik. Together, they built a life filled with friends and family. They made many memories traveling with friends. Gary was also a very fun and generous uncle to his nieces and nephews.

An avid golfer, he held memberships at Spring Creek and Deer Park golf courses. He took many golf trips with friends but one in particular was the trip they took to golf Pebble Beach! As health challenges affected his golf game, he enjoyed fishing with his brother Jim.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Scott Cotler and his nurse, Ivanka, along with all the doctors and nurses on the Hepatology floor at Loyola Medical Center for their exceptional care over the past 14 years. Special gratitude also goes to wonderful Vitas nurses, Jenny and Brittney, and Gary’s Home Health nurses, Cathy and Jane for their compassionate support.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Debbie, his sister, Debbie Lyons of St. Petersburg, FL, his brother, Jim (Mary) Quesse of LaSalle, his sister-in-law, Liz Quesse of Spring Valley, his sister-in-law, Carol (Mike) DeVries of Roscoe, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Rita Quesse; his brother, Bill Quesse, his brother-in-law, Tom Lyons and his in-laws, John and Shirley Nosalik.

Pallbearers honored to serve include: Billy Quesse, Tom Quesse, Luke Pellens, Luke Yaklich, Griffin Yaklich, Todd Hamer, John DeVries, Todd Haenle, Michael Smudzinski, and Matt Smudzinski.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in La Salle or Horizon House.

Gary will be remembered for his dedication to family, his hardworking spirit in the family business, and the warmth he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories shared.
