Gary L. Haszler

Gary L. Haszler, 82, of Toluca passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025 at Carle Health Methodist in Peoria.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, August 18, at the Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona with Rev. O. Wayne Shelksohn officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Toluca. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of services.

Mr. Haszler was born in Tonica on April 13, 1943 to Harold and Rachel (Krull) Haszler. He married Mary L. Stroup on June 6, 1964. For 40 years, he worked at Bernardi’s Italian Foods. He was also an organist for over 50 years at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Toluca. He also played for many weddings and funerals.

Mr. Haszler enjoyed attending steam engine shows and collecting antiques. He also loved baking. He will be remembered for his cookies and pies that were served at many funerals. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Haszler is survived by three children, Richard (Aggie) Haszler of Toluca, Cindy (Scott) Edwards of Toluca, and Chris Haszler of Anderson, SC; eleven grandchildren, Grant and Grace Haszler, Noah Haszler, Eli Haszler, Rachel Cook, Emma Haszler, Owen Haszler, Alex Haszler, Zach (Jennifer) Edwards, Taylor Edwards, and Wade Edwards; three great grandchildren, Nora Edwards, Odessa Edwards, and Amyas Smith; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary on June 7, 2020.
