G. Thomas Stevenson

G. Thomas Stevenson, 72, “Tom”, “Adlai” of Peru died June 26, 2026 in LaSalle. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, July 2, at Crossbridge Community Church in Ottawa with Pastor Harold Flach officiating. Private burial will be at Waltham Cemetery. Visitation will be in the church on Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle has been entrusted with Tom’s arrangements.

Tom was born in La Salle April 6,1954, to Glenn & Dorothy (Lushina) Stevenson who survive him. He is survived by his significant other, Michelle Serpico. He is the father of Elisa (Brad) Rubeck, Sycamore, Tyler (Kati) Stevenson, of Mendota, Rob Stevenson, of Mendota, Mari (Evan) Goldstrand of Durango, CO, and Renae (Nick) Lindenmayer of Dekalb.  

He was grandfather to Lily, Grace, and Preston Rubeck, Gavin and Connor Stevenson, Winter, Atticus, Indigo, and Jett Lindenmayer. He was also survived by sisters Christie Stevenson, Flatwoods, KY and Cindy Picco, Middlebury, IN and many beloved nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his brother Tim Stevenson and brothers-in-law Roger Coleman and John Picco.

Tom and Michelle traveled often, whether to a Caribbean island, Hawaii, or Santa Fe, New Mexico in search of art. They recently discovered cruising and found that very enjoyable. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren' s sporting events, plays, recitals, and other activities.

Tom attended Waltham Grade School, L-P High School, and the University of Illinois. Tom also attended the Missouri School of Auctioneering. He considered himself a lifelong learner. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, past exalted ruler of the Mendota Elks Club, past Mendota Grade School Board President, and past LaSalle Catholic School Board president. He was chairman of the board of Arukah Institute of Healing. He was president of the New Century Republicans and was a member of the Farm Bureau. He attended Crossbridge Church.

Tom was an entrepreneur from the start, being involved in agriculture, trucking, construction, manufacturing, sales, and culminating in being the CEO of Geneva Holdings Group. He liked to say he was self-employed all but four years of his life. Two things he said often were "You have to be smart enough to know what you don't know" and "How do you ask the question if you don't know what the question is supposed to be?"

Tom was very philanthropic. He quietly supported many local causes and events. He proudly supported St. Bede Academy and Arukah Institute of Healing. He was often asked why he supported St. Bede - his answer: "In today's world children need a strong Christian Foundation beneath them." He also supported the efforts of political candidates on local, state, and national levels.  Tom's parties were legendary - he loved having a party and getting friends and family together to build memories.

Pallbearers will be Gavin Stevenson, Connor Stevenson, Preston Rubeck, Brad Rubeck, Nick Lindenmayer, Evan Goldstrand, and Matt Avery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Bede Academy, Arukah Institute of Healing, or Crossbridge Community Church.
