Fran Scoma was born in La Salle on December 16, 1943 to Charles and Ann (Kump) Scoma. He married Mary Mueller on April 18, 1964. Fran graduated from Peoria Barber College and worked for his dad at Chuck’s Barbershop in La Salle. He then worked at Elliott Lumber Yard in La Salle until going to Tonica Lumber Company where he eventually became owner and operator.
Fran enjoyed working, but he lived his life for his family. He lived by his motto of “Never love anything that can’t love you back.” He was an avid reader and animal lover.
Fran is survived by his wife Mary of La Salle; two daughters Kris (Thomas) Scoma-Galbreath of Chicago and Vickie (Michael Hudson) Scoma of La Salle; one son Jim (Jennifer) Scoma of Peru; six grandchildren: Paige and Drew Scoma, Jay, Nolan, and Quin Galbreath, and Kalie (Mark) Bonafede; two brothers Charles (Betty) Scoma of La Salle and Jerry (Sally) Scoma of Peru; and a sister-in-law Nancy Scoma of Princeton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Paul Scoma, his dog Izzy, and his bird Rufus.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to PETA, Second Hand Ranch and Rescue (Wildlife Rescue in Princeton, IL), or any animal support group you prefer.
Pallbearers will be Jim, Drew, and Jerry Scoma; Mike Hudson; Tom, Nolan, and Quin Galbreath; and Jim Kreiser.
