Evelan K. Liesse

Evelan K. Liesse, 94, of Peru, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2023 at Manor Court of Peru.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with Rev. J.A. Small officiating.  Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park in Spring Valley.  Visitation will be in the funeral home on Monday from 9:00 AM until time of services.

Evelan was born in Sublette on September 24, 1928 to Jewel M. and Kathryn E. (Koehler) Summers. She graduated from Sesser High School and Brown’s Business College in St. Louis, MO.

She married Richard L. Phelps on June 4, 1950 in Seatonville Congregational Church.  He passed away on August 12, 1968.  She then married Jerome L. Liesse on July 30, 1976 in St. Valentine’s Church in Peru.  He passed away on November 17, 2020.  She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Peru and the Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles #2688.

Evelan is survived by one daughter Sandra (Donald) Kosciewicz of Peru; two sons, Steven (Debby) Phelps of Peru and Scott (Joann) Phelps of La Salle; two step children, David Liesse of Berwyn and Joanne (Robert) Roberson of Decatur, TN; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a brother Ronald Summers of La Salle and a sister Mary (Merle) Guth of Metamora.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, a daughter Susan Lynn Phelps in infancy, step-daughter Mary Beth Funfsinn, sister Berneice Skotnicki, daughter-in-law Kristie Phelps, son-in-law Donald Kosciewicz, brother-in-law Gene Skotnicki, and sister-in-law Elaine Summers.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
