Edward “Bud” Kilday

Edward “Bud” Kilday, 68, of La Salle, passed away on October 9, 2023 after a brief illness at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Monday October 16, 2023 in St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle with Rev. Christopher Magesa officiating.  Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle.  Visitation will be 3 to 7:00 PM Sunday in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle and 10:00 AM Monday in the church until time of services.

Bud was a cherished brother, uncle, great uncle and friend.  He was born on September 1, 1955 in La Salle. He was the youngest son of Edna Grace (Byrne) and Harold Edward Kilday.  He attended La Salle Northwest Elementary School before transferring to St. Patrick’s Grade School. He then attended and graduated from La Salle-Peru Township High School.  Bud continued his studies at Illinois Valley Community College, transferring and graduating from Northern Illinois University with his B.A. in Math and his M.S. in Administration.

Ed taught math at Newark High School and retired from education as an assistant principal at Mattoon High School.  After teaching, he worked at Home Hardware in Ottawa, IL where he enjoyed assisting customers and made many life-long friends.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Patrick Kilday.  

Ed is survived by his brothers, John (Carolyn) Kilday and Jim (Carol) Kilday, a sister-in-law Deirdre (Lee)Burkart, and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
