Douglas M. Jakse

Douglas M. Jakse, 69, of Oglesby, passed away July 31, 2024 at Allure of Peru with his loving family by his side.

Celebration of Life will be 5:00 PM Tuesday at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with Rev. Darin Jones officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home from 3:00 PM until time of services.

Doug was born in La Salle on April 21, 1955 to Eugene and Janice (Pohl) Jakse. He graduated from La Salle-Peru Township High School in 1973. He married Dixie Morahn in Ottawa on June 11, 1984 and just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. He was a dockman with Consolidated Freightways, retiring for the first time in 2003. He then worked as an armed guard for Global Industries and retired from there in 2023.

Doug was very involved with his community. He was a 33rd Degree Mason and then became a Shriner. He was a volunteer for the Utica Ambulance and Fire Department and a member of the Utica Elementary School Board. He coached his sons in the Utica and Oglesby Boys’ Little League and Senior League baseball. He loved guns and shooting. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

Doug is survived by his wife Dixie of Oglesby; three sons Eric Staton of Pontiac, Justin (Tracy) Jakse of Conifer, CO, and Landon (Angela) Jakse of Missouri City, TX; one daughter Danielle Staton of Ottawa; two grandchildren Brooklynn Staton and Ryker Jakse; and one sister Leesa Tipton of Peru.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law Neil Tipton.

Doug’s final wish was to continue to give and chose to donate his body to science.
