Douglas E. Fortney

Douglas E. Fortney, 59, of Peoria, passed away March 22, 2026 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, April 4, at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle, conducted by the family. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until time of services.

Doug was born in Gunnison, Mississippi on January 19, 1967 to Emmanuel and Macknolia (Beans) Fortney. He worked as a cook. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, cooking, watching Western shows, and cars.

Doug is survived by two sons, Douglas Smith and Terrence Smith; one daughter, Gabby Mallery; seven siblings, Elaina Fortney, Donnie Fortney, Brenda Fortney, Merlin Fortney, Herman Fortney, Darnell Fortney, and Emmite Fortney; grandchildren, Aiyanna Smith, Cecelia Smith, Clifford Sedam, Magnolia Sedam, Oliver Sarantinos, and Alexander Douglas Sarantinos; and one grandson on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Fortney.
