Donna E. Carls

Donna E. Carls, 91, of Tonica passed away at her home on January 12, 2026.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 17, at Tonica United Methodist Church with Pastor Phil Jackson officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Tonica. Visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica has been entrusted with her services.

Mrs. Carls was born in La Salle on September 30, 1934 to Elmer G. and Frances E. (Holiday) Roeder. She married Donald R. Hylin on March 9, 1957. He preceded her in death on September 1, 1977. She then married Rev. Gordon H. Carls on January 19, 1986. He also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Carls was the Director of Activities at Pleasant View Lutheran Home. She was a member of Tonica United Methodist Church and was involved with the Women’s Club at church. She loved to travel and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Schrader of Peru; three grandchildren, Nichlos (Krystal) Pelka, Jason (Kelley) Pelka, and Janeth Orellana; several great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lois Boe; and a brother-in-law, Robert Hylin.  Also survived by Phil (Tammy) Carls, David Carls, Lois and their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded by her husbands, two sons, Steven and Jeffrey Hylin, one sister Phyllis Bucar, and some nieces.
