Donald H. Peters

Donald H. “Donnie” Peters, 87, of Peru, died December 20, 2019 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, December 28, 2019 in the mausoleum at Peru City Cemetery with the Rev. Alex Garncarz officiating. Burial will follow in Peru City Cemetery. The Hurst Funeral Home in LaSalle is handling the arrangements.
 

Mr. Peters was born in Peru on December 27, 1931 to Hobart M. and Ella (Halm) Peters. He served with the US Army from 1953 until 1955 where he was stationed in Fort Lewis in Washington and also in Germany. He married Carol Ruth Herrmann in Zion United Church of Christ in Peru on July 17, 1955. He was a life-long farmer and also drove a semi-truck for Denler’s Supermarket. Donnie was a 1949 graduate of LaSalle-Peru Township High School. He was a life-long member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Peru and past president of Peru Waltham Insurance Company. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, camping, snowmobiling, and was an avid gardener. 
 

Mr. Peters is survived by his wife Carol of 64 years, two sisters; Lois J. Wilmot of Peru and Alice M. (Lyle) Guenther of Ottawa and many nieces and nephews. 
 

He was preceded in death by his parents.
 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion United Church of Christ in Peru or donor’s choice.
