Donald S. Nowakowski, 83, of Peru, passed away peacefully at Goldwater Care in Spring Valley on November 21, 2025.
Due to inclement weather, services were canceled and a private family funeral service was held.
Mr. Nowakowski was born in La Salle on January 8, 1942 to Edward and Mary (Grygiel) Nowakowski. He married Janice Szczepaniak on April 11, 1964. For many years, Mr. Nowakowski worked as a tool and die maker at Sundstrand in Peru. He also owned and operated a tool repair and sharpening business that was not only work but a passion. Mr. Nowakowski and his wife delivered papers for the NewsTribune for 20 years. He also served as the Peru Fire Department Chief and Fire Marshall for 30 years.
Mr. Nowakowski was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed baseball and softball, fishing, gardening, and spending time in his shop. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Nowakowski is survived by his wife, Janice of Peru; one son, Mark (Julie) Nowakowski of Peru; six grandchildren, Matt, Kevin, Alexis, CJ, Taylor, and Mikey; numerous great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his fur buddy Max.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Christopher on May 25, 2022, and one brother, Robert “Slats” Nowakowski.
