Donald C. Burton passed away peacefully on July 27, 2022 at 96 years of age.
Don grew up on a farm near Streator and was a graduate of Streator High School. Don enlisted in the US Navy right after high school. In 1953, he earned his BS degree in accounting from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. He married Audrey M. Storkman on May 28, 1949. He began his career in accounting with Conco in Mendota, followed by employment in 1965 with Saur Sundstrand, LaSalle. The company moved the family to Ames, IA in 1971, and Don retired from Sundstrand in 1990.
Don had many interests and activities. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and especially with his grandson, Ryan Feldott. He was an avid University of Illinois fan, Cubs fan, and later an Iowa State University fan. He was a Barbershop member for over 50 years, singing with chapters in the Illinois Valley, Ames, IA and Princeton. He was also member of the Elks, serving as Grand Exhalted Ruler for the Ames, IA, Lodge.Don was the life of the party. He loved to sing, fish, play golf and garden.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Burton, son-in-law, Terry Feldott, grandson, Ryan Feldott, in-laws, Robert and Carol Storkman, Dorothy Storkman, and Barbara Calhan, and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Audrey (nee Storkman), siblings and spouses Robert (Marianne) Burton and Ardelle (Owen) Lyons, as well as in-laws Kenneth, Elaine, Richard, and Larry Storkman, Norma and Raymond Cattani, Paula and Ken Stringer, Richard Calhan, Danny Larson, June and Tom Hebel, four nephews, two nieces, and much beloved kitty, Cookie.
Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with Rev. Alex Garncarz officiating. Burial will be in Peru City Cemetery with full military honors conducted. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of services.
