Denise M. Etscheid Sabotta, 98 of La Salle, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023 surrounded by her family and the love of her life Jerry Reynolds at Allure of Peru.
A celebration of life gathering will take place beginning at 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, December 8, 2023, followed by a prayer service at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with Rev. Gregory Jarzombek OSB officiating. Private burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in La Salle.
Denise was born in Gosport, England on December 26, 1924 to Daniel and Vere (Towler) Looney. After meeting her first husband Elwood Etscheid in London during World War II, she traveled to America as a war bride. She became an American citizen (but kept her love of tea and sweets) and had a full and exciting life of family, artistry and service to her community; keeping in touch with other war brides in the area. Denise received a Bachelor Degree of Education from Northern Illinois University and was a substitute teacher for several years. She was a talented seamstress, made custom teddy bears and enjoyed painting and reading. She owned and operated a sign business and a custom bridal shop. Denise loved to serve her community by volunteering for many City of La Salle events, the American Red Cross along with many other community organizations. She was proud to be a Docent at the historic Hegeler Carus Mansion and meeting people from all around the world. She won the Illinois Valley Living’s Women of Distinction Award in 2015.
Denise is survived by her partner Jerry Reynolds of La Salle; twelve children, Michael Etscheid of Ottawa, Yvonne Crowe of Danielsville, GA, Daniel Etscheid of Peru, Peter (Rayanna) Etscheid of Peru, John (Cheri) Etscheid of Cedar Point, Ann-De Bailey of Jefferson City, TN, Stephanie Etscheid of Utica, Jackie (Warren) Norris of La Salle, Paul (Jeri) Etscheid of La Salle, Francine Etscheid of Sterling Heights, MI, Mark (Sherrie) Etscheid of Magnolia and Michele (Chuck) Baarck of Harrison Township, MI; two step-children John (Joanne) Sabotta of La Salle and Christine (Mark) Sloan of Sheboygan, WI, thirty five grandchildren, thirty five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by two sons, Christopher and Jimmy Etscheid, one granddaughter Leslie Frantzen and one great-grandson Jaxon Etscheid.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Allure of Peru and OSF Hospice for their warm and professional care for Denise.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in her name to the Hegeler Carus Mansion
1307 7th St, LaSalle, IL 61301 or the American Red Cross (https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation.html/).
