David A. Wagner

David A. Wagner, 66, of Peru, passed away after complications with cancer on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Goldwater Health Care in Spring Valley.

Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Friday, October 31, at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with Rev. J.A. Small officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 PM until time of services. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Spring Valley at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded.

David was born in Peru on June 16, 1959 to Robert and Mildred (Barber) Wagner. He graduated from La Salle-Peru Township High School. He married Cindy Schrowang on April 26, 1980 and later divorced.

David worked various jobs with his favorites being Beck’s in Granville and at the NewsTribune. He loved to travel with his family and was always ready to go anyplace. Later in life, he was known by many as “The Walking Guy” as he would traverse around the La Salle-Peru area, helping others while he could. He was given the Good Neighbor Award for his “kindness and generosity he demonstrated and for being a good friend and neighbor.”

David is survived by one son, John (Dani) Wagner of Fort Wayne, IN; one brother, Edward Wagner of Montgomery; nephews, Bob (Sanchita) Wagner of Providence, RI and Kirk Wagner of Thorndale, TX; nieces Debbie (Edward) Ensor of Sheridan, Shari Wagner of Peru, and Liz (Ryan) Radtke of Peru; several great nieces and nephews; and special friend, Diana Weber of Peru.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Samantha and Anthony; one brother, Thomas Wagner, and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Wagner.
