David J. Strack, 40, of Leonore passed away as a result of a car accident on Wednesday October 11, 2023.
Funeral services will be 11:00AM Tuesday at the Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Leonore with full military services conducted by the Tonica American Legion. Visitation will be in the Hurst Funeral Home on Monday from 4-7:00 PM with additional visitation on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of services. Lunch will be served at Sts. Peter and Paul Church Hall after the burial.
Dave was born in Spring Valley on June 13, 1983 to Rodney and Rhonda (Milner) Strack. He obtained the rank of Sergeant in the United States Army and was stationed in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, Camp Castle, Korea, and Oahu, Hawaii. He served in three deployments to Iraq where he served as a combat engineer focused on construction, demolition, bridge building, and land mines before being honorably discharged in 2011.
After the Army, Dave worked for Ottawa Barge Terminal, Dauber Company, AgView Fs, and Set Environmental Inc. where he specialized in advanced rescue and safety. Dave was also an active voluntary firefighter for the Leonore Volunteer Fire Department since July of 2011. His hobbies were his kids, coaching softball, golfing, and driving a ’66 Pontiac Tempest.
Dave is survived by his children Jaydn and Stella (whom he loved dearly); his parents Rodney and Rhonda Strack of Leonore; his grandmothers Ann “Bootsie” Milner of Peru and Marge Strack of Peru; his siblings Katherine (Jeremy) Schenk, Shane Strack, and Stacy (Ryan) Poole; his nieces and nephews Timothy Schenk, Michela Schenk, Josie Schenk, Samantha Strack, Maddox Poole, Marcus Schenk, Joleen Poole, and Vanessa Strack; many, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Marion Milner and Louis and Catherine Strack.
