Burnelle Dellwood Massatt

Burnelle Dellwood Massatt, 95, of Matteson, formerly of Fort Pierce, FL and Palos Height, passed away November 23, 2025 at Warren Barr Retirement Home in Orland Park.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 26, at the Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica with Rev. Ron McNeill officiating.  Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Tonica.  Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until time of services.

Burnelle was born in Peru on September 9, 1930 to Joseph and Augusta (Deichmueller) Massat.  He married Myrtis Milner on October 28, 1949.  Burnelle graduated La Salle-Peru Township High School, received his Bachelor’s of Science at Bradley University and Master’s Degree at University of Illinois.  He was a coach, teacher, dean and then superintendent at Reavis High School in Burbank, IL. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and playing tennis.

Burnelle is survived by his wife, Myrtis of Matteson; three sons, Paul (Janice) Massatt of Fountain Valley, CA, Brian (Susan) Massatt of Tinley Park and Gary Massatt of Crestwood; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Dave and Don, one brother, and one sister.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society Leukemia Research.
