Bryan Doyle Obituary

Bryan James Doyle, 76, of Oglesby, passed away peacefully at home on October 20, 2023 with his sister Deb and his brother in-law John at his side.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is assisting Bryan’s family with his arrangements.

Bryan was born in St. Mary’s Hospital, La Salle on March 15, 1947, to Thomas and Ann (Smith) Doyle of Dimmick. He attended Dimmick Grade School and then St. Bede Academy, graduating in 1965.

He entered the US Army on August 8, 1966 serving in Vietnam as part of the 1st Infantry Division. He worked as a maintenance and repairman for telecommunications throughout Vietnam until discharge on August 7, 1969. Upon discharge, he received the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and Expert Rifle Medal.

After Vietnam, Bryan attended Illinois State University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree. He worked in telecommunication after graduation and then ventured out on his own working as a carpenter, painter, and handyman.

Bryan will be remembered as a someone who loved his freedom and the outdoors. His daughter Christa remembers many camping excursions in the “ARK”; he loved fishing & hunting with his sons Matt and Jeff, and Katie remembers countless hours hanging out with him at the Barn, fishing at the neighbor’s pond and 4-wheeling. Bryan loved to read, had a fascination with UFO’s, always had a live Christmas tree that was too huge for the room, was an avid Bears fan and was known for planting the best vegetable garden in rural Oglesby!

He is survived by 5 wonderful children: Laura (Dave) Davis of Auburn, CA, Christa Nicole (Matthew) Cison of Highland Park, IL, Matt Doyle of Peru, IL, Katie Doyle of Normal, IL and Jeff Doyle of Peru, IL; 5 grand children: Christopher Davis of CA, Shelby (Aaron) Rea of CA, Ava Cison of Highland Park, IL, Cella Cison of Highland Park, IL, Evelyn Doyle of Peru, IL, 1 great grandchild: Robert Rea of CA; 7 sisters Paula (Vince) Lenz, Deborah (John McCrosky) Walens, Joan (Tom) Peterson, Kay (Ken) Tassett, Becky (Dr  Peter) Meier, Kim Doyle, and Ellen Doyle; four brothers Luke (Sue) Doyle, Pat (Lynn) Doyle, David (Polly) Doyle, and Mark (JoAnne) Doyle.

His children and siblings fondly remember his wit and sense of humor and will remember him famously saying, “thank you for loving me” …and we certainly did!
