Betty L. Roegner, 87, of Peru, IL passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on June 19, 2026.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, June 25, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru with Pastor Jeff Schlesinger and Minister Dave Kromphardt officiating. Burial will be at Peru City Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday, June 24, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Additional visitation will be at the church on Thursday, June 25, from 10:00 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle has been entrusted with Betty’s arrangements.

Betty was born in Mendota, IL on January 9, 1939 to Thomas and Luella (Freeman) Kidd. She graduated from Mendota High School in 1957 and went on to Copley School of Nursing in Aurora where she received her degree as a registered nurse. She married Richard A. Roegner on July 22, 1960.

Betty worked as a nurse for many years at IVCH in Peru. Following her retirement from nursing, Betty continued her lifelong calling of caring for others through her work as a children’s librarian at the Peru Public Library, where she especially enjoyed nurturing a love of reading in young children. She also continued to volunteer at the hospital and with the Red Cross. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and loved traveling and sports. She was a longstanding member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Betty was a loving mother to her sons, Doug (Robin) Roegner of Rockford, IL, Tom (Kim) Roegner of Plantation, FL, Brad (Anne) Roegner of Bloomington, IL, and John (Anne) Roegner of Naperville, IL. She was a cherished grandmother to her nine grandchildren, Lindsay (Daniel), Christopher, Katie (Justin), Kevin (Kristy), Nicholas (Thea), Erin (James), David, Ryan, and Blake and six great grandchildren, Emersyn, Jackson, Booker, Walker, Wrangler, and Eleanor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 1994, and by her brother, Harold, who died in infancy.

Pallbearers will be Betty’s nine grandchildren.

A special thanks is extended to a dear family friend and caregiver, Bella, and the local care team at VITAS Healthcare.

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church to continue Betty’s tradition of providing bibles for the children of the congregation, or to the Children’s Room at the Peru Public Library.
