Betty L. Clevenger, 88, formerly of Rutland and a resident of Lake Wildwood in Varna the past 40 years, passed away August 23, 2021 in OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Funeral services will be 12:00 PM Saturday in the Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona with Rev. John Hoyt, Pastor of Rutland Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery #2, also known as the "Salem Cemetery" in rural Varna. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services. Masks are optional.
Mrs. Clevenger was born in Streator on April 17, 1933 to Albert and Gladys (Schneider) Weers. She married Rolland Clevenger on August 12, 1951. They just celebrated 70 years of marriage. She was a cook at Rutland School and sold Avon. Betty was a Cubs and Girls Scout Leader. She loved playing bingo, Square Dancing and tending to her flowers. She was very active in all activities at Lake Wildwood and an active member of Rutland Christian Church.
Mrs. Clevenger is survived by her husband Rolland of Streator; three children, John Clevenger of Rutland, Marsha (Jerry) Dennis of Streator and Rick Clevenger of Texas; four grandchildren, Jerry (Heather) Dennis, Karry Rich, Cora Clevenger, and Johnny Clevenger; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters, Elmer (Linda) Weers, Marilyn (Leonard) Staple, Robert (Brenda) Weers, Carolyn (Harry) Dent, Myron (Eva) Schoon, Howard (Dorothy) Smith, Freddy Weers, Virgil (Mary) Weers, Donald Weers, Raymond Weers, Lillian (Krischell) Dorff and Jimmy Weers in infancy.
