Benny J. Archer Sr.

Benny J. Archer Sr., 73, of Utica, passed away at home surrounded by his family on July 1, 2023.

Funeral services will be 5:00 PM Thursday at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with Rev. Alex Garncarz officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 PM until time of services. Burial will be 10:30 AM Friday at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood with full military honors.

Benny was born in Moline on September 18, 1949 to Victor W and Mary Lou (Mapel) Archer. He served with the US Army in Vietnam from 1968-1971. He was a combat engineer serving with the 62nd Engineer Battalion and 984th Engineer Company. He married Doris Jones on April 10, 1971. He worked at Caterpillar in Pontiac for over 34 years.

Benny loved spending time with his grandchildren and granddogs. He was very patriotic and loved collecting eagles.

Benny is survived by four sons Chad (Jenny) Archer of Utica, Matt (Janice) Archer of Standard, Victor (Jennifer) Archer of Indiana, and Benny Archer Jr. of Kangley; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters Cindy and Sam Archer.

He was preceded in death by his wife Doris on November 12, 2019, parents, granddaughter Jasmine, and two brothers Michael and Timothy Archer.
