Barbara A. Taylor, 78, of La Salle, died January 13, 2022 in St. Margaret’s Health of Peru after an extended illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Wednesday in St. Patrick’s Church with the Very Rev Thomas Otto officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 PM in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle and 10:00 AM Wednesday until time of services in the church.

Barb was born in La Salle on February 14, 1943 to John and Ann (Bergles) Danczak. She married Mike Taylor on December 23, 1961. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She retired as Officer Manager at Nicor Gas in Troy Grove. Barb enjoyed spending time gardening, growing vegetables and plants, but flowers were her favorite. She was a creative quilter and sewer with an eye for color and used a variety of techniques. She made many beautifully detailed quilts, clothing, costumes and items for charity donations. Family and friends were blessed to be given her handmade gifts that were stitched with love. Barb enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for family gatherings and for “the boys” at Nicor. She loved continuing on family food traditions such as potica and ravioli making. Barb also enjoyed DIY projects and crafting. She loved attending local concerts and musicals and going out to eat with “the gang”. Barb was a lifelong learner who loved new gadgets and technology. She enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting activities, and loved being a great grandma to her eight great grandchildren. Although Barb was always active and busy, her favorite thing to do was spend time together with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her. She influenced many, and she made the world a better place wherever she went. Barb was active in the Illinois Valley Quilt Guild, Sew & Sews, Pink Ribbon Club of the Illinois Valley, Ladies Golf League at Senica’s Oak Ridge, weekly bridge group, fitness classes or yoga & meditation groups, and the Slovenian Union of America (SUA).

Barb is survived by her husband Mike of La Salle, one daughter; Tammy (Kevin) Carey of Oglesby, five grandchildren; Kendra (Mike) Heiden, Kelsey (Brock) Pezanoski, Courtney (Justin) Curley, Clayton (Ashley) Hamrick, and Alyssa (Ryan) Bradley, eight great grandchildren; Van, Ellie, Jack, Lyla, Rosie, Tracy, Tyler, and Delilah, one son-in-law; Jeff Hamrick of St. Charles, MO, one sister; Chris Jackson of Peru, and one brother; Jack (Carla) Danczak of La Salle.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter; Tracy (Taylor) Hamrick.
