Alvin “Buzz” Buswink, 90, of Sugar Grove and formerly of Cherry, died July 15, 2018 at Presence McAuley Manor in Aurora.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday July 28, 2018 in St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle. Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle with full military honors performed by the La Salle-Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group. Visitation will be in the church from 10:00 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is handling his arrangements.
Mr. Buswink was born in Cherry on March 10, 1928 to William John and Alma (Mills) Buswink. He married Mary Jane Krasinski on November 27, 1965.
He served with the US Marines during the Korean War. He worked as an Electrician at Western Electric in Montgomery, IL and after his retirement there, he was employed at Scot Industries in Sugar Grove.
Buzz loved being an amateur radio operator for over 60 years, with the call sign W9AYJ, and was a member of the ARRL and FRRL radio clubs.
He is survived by his wife Jane of Sugar Grove; one daughter, Debbie Zywica of Sugar Grove and one son Dan Zywica of Ottawa; two granddaughters, Danielle (Lance) Valle of Ottawa and Nichole Zywica of Spring Valley; two great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Valle and Haiden Stanford; two sisters, Isabelle Brown of Amboy and Phyllis Koch formerly of Peru and recently relocated to Washington state, and he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
