Obituary

Adelaide Piotrowski, 87, of La Salle, passed away peacefully in her home on July 20 from complications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.  She was surrounded by her husband and her children at the time she passed.

Visitation will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 23 at St. Hyacinth’s Church in La Salle followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM with Rev Paul Carlson officiating.  Cremation rites will follow, and a celebration of Adelaide’s life will be held at a later date. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is assisting the family with arrangements.

Adelaide was born on September 5, 1934, in Oglesby.  After graduating from La Salle-Peru High School in 1951, she went on to study at the American School of Beauty Culture in Chicago, and more recently, at Illinois Valley Community College.

In 1953, she met Leonard Piotrowski and they wed in 1956, going on to have two children, Michael and Mary Ellen.

When Adelaide had Michael and Mary Ellen, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. Adelaide excelled at propping her immediate and extended family and supporting them through the many passions and challenges of their lives. She made it her mission to improve the lives of others.

Adelaide was a passionate homemaker and when she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found spending many a happy moment with Layla, her beloved pet Maltese. We will miss her greatly.

Adelaide was predeceased by her mother and father, Adele (Bunzell) and John Piaseczny, her brother, John Piaseczny, and her sister Barbara (Piaseczny) Lushina.

She is survived by her husband Leonard, her son Michael (Christine) Piotrowski, Saint Charles, IL; her daughter Mary Ellen (Scott) Batty, Ottawa; her sister Bernadine (Piaseczny) Rivera, Greenville, SC; her grandson Christopher (Annie) Batty, Saint Charles, IL; her great grandchildren Emmeline and Connor Batty; special nieces and nephews Kara (Peter), Paul, and Christian Callaway, Saint Charles, IL; Christopher Lushina, Hermosa Beach, CA; and David and Gregory Hazelhurst, Greenville, SC; and special cousins Paul Meinardus (Galt, CA) and John Meinardus (Palos Park, IL).

In lieu of sending flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to the charitable organization of the donor’s choice in Adelaide’s name.
