Shelby Jean (Hash) Kalnas, 81, of Peru, died November 17, 2019 in Aperion Care in Spring Valley.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Private family services will be held at a later date. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is handling her arrangements.

Shelby was born in Bureau on November 21, 1937 to Lewis T. and Cora (Barnett) Hash. She married Ronald Paul Kalnas in 1956. She retired as a bus driver from Illinois Central. She was a devout non-denominational Christian. Lover of Lifelong learning and champion of children and animals.

Mrs Kalnas is survived by three sons, Ronald (Christine) Kalnas, Edward Kalnas and Robert (Lisa) Kalnas; two daughters, Debbie (Al) Haszler and Jan (Mark Meyer) Johnson; eight grandchildren, Ashley (Terry) Dinges, Aaron Bennett, Sheena (Chris) Ebner, Patrick (Mary) Johnson, Steve Johnson, Frank Bennett, Kaliana Kalnas and Karissa Kalnas; six great-grandchildren, a brother Ray Hash, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 9, 2004, parents, two sisters, Shirley Brittingham and Grace Moeller and three brothers, Lewis, William and John Hash.

Memorials may be directed to Children’s Defense Fund or Illinois Valley Animal Rescue.
