Ronald Samolitis Obituary

Ronald A. “Ronnie” Samolitis, 79, of Tonica passed away October 11, 2018 in Heritage Health in Streator.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at the Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica with the Very Rev. Gary Blake, Pastor of Holy Family Church in Oglesby, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with full military services conducted by the Tonica American Legion. Visitation will be in the funeral home Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of services.

Mr. Samolitis was born in La Salle on September 19, 1939 to Anthony and Frances “Jeanie” (Oszczepinski) Samolitis. He served with the US Navy from 1960 to 1964. He married Martha Kreiser on August 13, 1966. Ron worked at LTV Steel in Hennepin. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and collecting trains. He was a member of Tonica American Legion and served on the Tonica Fire and Ambulance Departments as a EMT.

Ron is survived by one daughter Tricia (Mark) Salata of Streator; son-in-law Dave Puetz of Tonica; three grandchildren Brandon, Megan, and Lindsey; two brothers; and one sister.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Martha on December 31, 2011, and his daughter Tami Puetz on July 26, 2017.
