Rodger S. Bara

Rodger Stanley Bara, 72, of Peru died March 29, 2018, in Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru.

Services will be at 7:00 PM Wednesday in Hurst Funeral Home, La Salle. Pastor Jon Graham will officiate. Burial will be at a late date. La Salle-Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group will conduct military honors at the funeral home. Visitation will be 4-7:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home.

Rodger was born Sept. 21, 1945, in La Salle to John and Vivian (Brittingham) Bara. He was a 1964 graduate of La Salle-Peru Township High School. Rodger was an Army veteran, serving from 1965-1967, and was in Vietnam from 1966-67, where he received a Bronze Service Star. He married Jean Wenberg on Dec. 28, 1968, in De Pere, Wis.

He worked as a maintenance mechanic for Huntsman Chemical in Peru for over 33 years. He was a 35-year member of South Shore Boat Club and past president and member of Peru Rescue Station.

Rodger is survived by one daughter, Lea Mae Bara of Peru; one son, Eric (Angela) Bara of Deer Park; four grandchildren, Madison, Ethan, Evan and Ava Bara; one sister, Johnette (Gene) Beebe of La Salle; one brother, Bernie (Gerri) Bara of Birchwood, Wis.; and his loving grandpets.

Rodger was preceded in death by his wife on March 10, 2018.
