Dick Figlik, 82, of Loves Park, IL, passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the LaSalle Veteran's Home.
A Korean War-era veteran, Dick was interred with a grave-side military honor service at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery (Section 18 Site 676) located in Elwood, IL.
Born July 7th in Chicago, Dick was the elder son of Joe Figlik and Elsie Vratatina. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Patricia Carol Nowc and sons Jim (Donna) Figlik of Port Huron, MI, Tom (Sue) Figlik of Lewis Center, OH and granddaughter, Sarah Figlik also of Ohio. Additionally, Dick is survived by brother Ken (Donna) Figlik of Loves Park and nieces Sherry Adolph & Kelly (Richard) Terasaki.
Dick graduated from the University of Illinois-Urbana in 1965 with a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and went to work for Radiation, Inc. in Melbourne, FL where he worked on the first satellite "phone", although it did require a CH-46 "Chinook" helicopter to move it around. After Magnavox Television closed down operations in Champaign, IL, Dick moved into construction management at the Enrico Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory while earning an MBA. Subsequent projects included the Bureau of Mines in Pittsburgh, PA, the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, headquartered in Metairie, LA (New Orleans) and the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant project in Carlsbad, NM. Moving companies were on his speed dial.
Dick was always proud to be from Chicago and considered it "home" as well as being a lifelong Bears & Cubs fan. In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. As Dick loved dogs, the thought of helping your local animal shelter would make him happy.
