Pauline E. Arkels

Pauline E. Arkels, 106, formerly of Leonore, died peacefully March 6, 2018 in Manor Court of Peru with her family by her side.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Leonore with Msgr. James Swaner officiating. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 AM until time of services in the church. The Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Arkels was born in Richland Township on August 27, 1911 to Conrad and Mary (Salz) Loebach. She married Arthur Arkels in Sts. Peter and Paul Church on December 28, 1935.

Mrs. Arkels was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, and St. Ann’s Sodality.

Mrs. Arkels is survived by two sons Gary (Carolyn) Arkels of Lonoke, AR and Stephen (Sandra) Arkels of Princeton, twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur on October 15, 1991, daughter H.J. “Toots” Schmitt on February 11, 2018, one granddaughter Julie Ann Schmitt, two great grandsons, seven brothers, and four sisters.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Memorials may be directed for masses in her name.
