Nasario “Chayo” Moreno Obituary

Nasario “Chayo” Moreno, 87, of La Salle, died September 5, 2019 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday in St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle with the Very Rev. Paul Carlson officiating.  Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle with full military services conducted by the La Salle/Oglesby Veterans’ Memorial Group.  Visitation will be 4 to 8:00 PM Wednesday in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle and in the church on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of services.

Chayo was born in DePue on March 11, 1932 to Antonio and Zenaida (Delgado) Moreno.  He served with the United States Army during Korean War from 1952 until 1954.  He married Carol Billard in 1956.  Chayo worked at Owens Illinois Glass in Streator until his retirement in 1994.  He also operated Chayo’s Tap in La Salle for 3 years.  After his retirement from Owens, he worked for Enterprise in Peru for 10 years.

Chayo was a member of La Salle VFW #4668, Catholic  War Veterans #1229 and St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle.  He loved traveling, dancing, dining out, going to DePue Boat Races and drinking his beer with family and friends.  He had a passion for cars and was an avid Cubs and Green Bay Packers Fan.

He is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Walt) Manijak of La Salle and Mikki (Mike) Bibula of Columbus, GA;  two sons, Tony Moreno of La Salle and Randy (Audrey) Moreno of Mendota; seven grandchildren, Randy (Dani) Moreno of La Salle, Maggie (Kevin) Kelly of Ladd, Eric (Jessica) Manijak of La Salle, Sarah (Ozzy) Landeros of La Salle, Aleigh Day of La Salle, Ryan Day of McNabb and Sammi Day of McNabb; five great-grandchildren, Maci, Karson, Madison, Hudson and Romina; two sisters, Sophie (Ray) Torres of Oswego and Lydia Hebel of Peoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carol on July 21, 1982, one grandson Raymond Moreno, daughter-in-law Amy Moreno,  two brothers, Tonto and Petey Moreno, and a special friend Ann Williams.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
