Nancy A. Porter

Nancy A. Porter, 93, of La Salle, died unexpectedly on November 16, 2017.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 AM Monday in St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle with Rev. Jacob Valle officiating.  Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 PM Sunday in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle.  Additional visitation will be in the church on Monday from 9:00 AM until time of services.

Nancy was born in Oglesby on January 13, 1924 to Frank and Mary Ethel (Swords) O’Sadnick.  She married Telfer J. Porter on June 13, 1949.  She worked as a bookkeeper at Kelly and Cawley’s, then Westclox and retire in 2016 after 50 years of service at St. Mary’s and Illinois Valley Community Hospital’s.

Nancy was the last surviving member of the Starved Rock murder trial.  She was a board member at YMCA, member of St. Patrick’s Church and Sisters of the Skillet.  She volunteered for Hospice and IVAR.  Nancy donated over 30 gallons at American Red Cross.

She is survived by two sons, Jack (Liz) Porter of La Salle and Jim Porter of Spring Valley; four grandchildren, Thea (Paul) Mellentine, Cera (Chris) Parsons, Colin Porter and Chris (Lisa) Jennings; six great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Jaqueline Cole O’Sadnick; long time friend Teresa Mikus and foster son Thomas Cosgrove.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 26, 1971, six brothers, three sisters, two granddaughters, Nora and Sarah Jennings and a niece Bridget Albert, whom she helped raise.

Pallbearers will be Chris Parsons, Colin Porter, Paul Mellentine, Chris Jennings, Rick O’Sadnick and Gary Biolchini.

Memorials may be made to IVAR or Illinois Valley Hospice.
