Lawrence “Larry” Giltner, 83, of Tonica passed away on September 12, 2017 at home.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Saturday in Tonica United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Nowakowski officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Tonica with full military honors by the Tonica American Legion. Visitation will be 9:00 AM until time of services in the church. The Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Giltner was born in Tiskilwa on January 20, 1934 to Burr and Mellean (Hedgespeth) Giltner. He served with the US Army in Korea from 1954-1955. He married Dorene Foote on April 8, 1972. He had lived in Morris for 22 years before moving to Tonica. Larry had the privilege of going on Greater Honor Flight in May 2017 to Washington D.C. from Peoria. He served with the Lisle, Tri-State, and International Harvester Fire Departments. Larry had worked at International Harvester in Burr Ridge for 26 years in the research department.
Mr. Giltner is survived by his wife Dorene of Tonica; children Al (Joanne) Giltner of Tonica, Karen (John) Bols of Morris, Joe (Chris Zavada) Giltner of MT, and Leroy (Debbie) Giltner of Coal City; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; his brothers Ken (Jo) Giltner of FL, John (Judy) Giltner of OH, Paul (Laura) Giltner of MI; many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and neighbors.
He was preceded in death his parents, baby sister Loretta, sister Frances, brothers Ray and Ed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Tonica Ambulance and Fire Department.
