James F. Simmons, 73, of Wenona, died November 28, 2018 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Private burial of his ashes will be at a later date in Wenona Cemetery with full military services. The Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona is handling arrangements.
Jim was born in Streator on August 30, 1945 to Ezra and Eileen (Melvin) Simmons. He married Dianna Hallam on July 24, 1966. Jim was a Warden with the Illinois Department of Corrections.
He enjoyed golfing, mowing grass, working on his Christmas tree farm in Clinton, Michigan, and spending time with Dianna.
Jim served with the US Army. He was stationed in Korea where he was an Engineer, building roads.
He is survived by his wife Dianna of Wenona; two sons, Douglas E. (Lisa) Simmons of Chatham and James E. (Melissa) Simmons of Oswego; seven grandchildren, Devon, Derek, Isaac, Gavin, Carter, Gabriel and Genevieve; one great-granddaughter Mylee Dianna Simmons; two sisters, Sally (Dan) Bane of Wenona and Susan (Bob) Nelson of Wenona; three brothers, Rocky (Paulette) Simmons, William (Debra) Simmons and John (Barb) Simmons, all of Wenona; and his dog Foxie.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Raymond Simmons.
