James “Jim” Manley 85 of Utica, died July 3, 2018 in the Illinois Veteran’s Home at LaSalle.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday in St. Mary’s Church in Utica with the Rev. Mike Driscoll officiating. Burial will be in St Mary’s Cemetery in Utica with full military services conducted by the Utica American Legion. Visitation will be 4:00 until 7:00 PM Friday in the Hurst Funeral Home in LaSalle. Additional visitation will be in the church Saturday from 9:30 AM until time of services.
Jim was born in LaSalle on October 28, 1932 to William L. and Margaret (Farmer) Manley. He married Eleanor Fowlie in St. Mary’s Church in Utica on October 6, 1956. Jim served with the US Army as a Sergeant First Class during the Korean War from 1953 until 1955. He first worked at Libby Owens and then retired from Local 150 Operating Engineers. Jim retired from the Utica Volunteer Fire Department where he served as a Captain. He was also a member of the Utica Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling, wood working, gardening, long walks, and along with Eleanor, traveling to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Jim is survived by his wife Eleanor of Utica, three children; William (Julianne) Manley of Ottawa, Jill Sapp of Peru, and Robert (Kristen) Manley of Peru. Five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters; Rita Eschbach of Ottawa and Ann Jansen of Oglesby.
He was preceded in death by a son Steven Manley, three sisters; Marie (Harold) Waters, Rose (Carl) Swanson, and Betty in infancy. Four brothers; Joe (Elsie) Manley, Ambrose (Betty) Manley, Billy Manley, and Paul Manley.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Sapp, Joshua Kotecki, Joseph and Jay Jansen, Will Manley, and Ron Gregorich.
