James L. “Tates” Kirsteatter, 65, of Peru passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, due to complications from a major stroke.
Jim was born in LaSalle on March 6, 1954 to Louis and Sylvia (Meglan) Kirsteatter. He graduated from LaSalle-Peru Township High School in 1972. Following high school, he attended IVCC for one year and then worked for Sigma Graphics. In October 1983, he found a home at LKCS publishing where he was employed for over 33 years. Jim loved to walk his dogs and, through the years, could be routinely seen in the neighborhood and parks with his beloved pets. He was also a diehard Cubs, Bears, and Bulls fan.
He is survived by his loving mother, Sylvia Kirsteatter; brother Gary (Maureen); aunt and godmother Marilynn Hurley; uncle Lynn (Marge) Kirsteatter; niece Kelly (Derek) Favret; great-nephew Colin Favret; and great-niece Clare Favret. He will also be missed by his numerous cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Louis J. Kirsteatter, Sr., and his brother, Louis J. Kirsteatter, Jr.
The family would like to thank the Heartland Healthcare specialists and staff for the outstanding and compassionate care they provided Jim over the past three years.
A memorial service will be held at Hurst Funeral Home in LaSalle on Tuesday July 16, at 10:00 a.m. with grave side services immediately following in Peru City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Illinois Valley Animal Rescue in La Salle or Heartland Healthcare Services in Henry, Illinois.
