Harold E. May, 85, of Ladd, died unexpectedly on August 7, 2017.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday in the Hurst Funeral Home in Ladd with Rev. Mike Slutz, pastor of Hollowayville United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Ladd Cemetery with full military services conducted by the Ladd American Legion. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 9:30 AM until time of services.
Mr. May was born in Bureau County on August 16, 1931 to Harold A. and Catherine M. (Meyer) May. He married Irene J. Rosczyk on June 28, 1952. Harold graduated from La Moille High School. He served with the US Army during the Korean War from January 30, 1952 until October 30, 1953. He was a Staff Sergeant with the Infantry 3rd Division.
Mr. May was a machine operator at Caterpillar in Joliet and then retired from Phillip-Johanna Plastic Plant in Ladd. He was a member of St. Benedict’s Church and Harold E. Russell Post #938 Ladd American Legion. He enjoyed working on and riding motorcycles, camping, his flower garden and his tractor collection.
Mr. May is survived by his wife Irene of Ladd; one daughter Karen (Michael) Shinnick of Spring Valley; one son, David (Lilly) May of rural Granville; six grandchildren, Joshua (Robyn) Strait, Travis (Vicki) Strait, Dustin Strait, April (Shane) Weathersby, Julee (Dale) Corcoran and David (Tiffany) Shinnick; eight great-grandchildren, Liam, Piper, Maddie, Abram, Emmett, Evelyn, Parker and Quinn; one sister, Darlene Vogt of Ladd. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law Carlton Vogt.
Pallbearers will be Michael Shinnick, Lilly May and his grandchildren.
