Gloria Rose (Daffara) Lohr

Gloria Rose (Daffara) Lohr, 93, of Wenona, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 12, 2018 in Heritage Health in Minonk.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Monday in St. Mary’s Church in Wenona with the Franciscian Friars officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be in the church on Monday from 9:00 AM until time of services.  The Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona is handling her arrangements.

Gloria was born on May 4, 1925 in Oglesby, the daughter of Charles and Catherine (Talamini) Daffara.  On April 27, 1946, she married John R. Lohr in Ottawa.  They enjoyed 59 years together before his death in 2005.

Gloria and her husband John, owned and operated the Wenona Greenhouse for many years, where she excelled as head floral designer. She was an avid reader and had many talents including painting, crocheting and quilting.  Gloria was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in many capacities including Eucharistic Minister, CCD teacher, and church decorator for many holidays.  She was also active in the Wenona community including President of the Friends of the Library, and member of the American Legion Auxillary and a literacy tutor.

She is survived by five children; Maribeth (Mike) Durham of Varna, Charles (Susan) Lohr of Wenona, Randall (Marlene) Lohr of Wenona, John Cary Lohr and Christopher Lohr, both of Wenona; son-in-law Roger Taylor of Boulder, CO.  She was the loving grandmother to twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and many dear step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Gloria was preceded in death by a daughter, April K. Lohr.  She was the last sibling of her family.  She was preceded in death by brothers, James, John, Charles, Hector and Raymond; sisters, Olga, Lucy, Emma, Mary and Lorraine.

Memorials may be made to Wenona Bond Public Library or Wenona Food Pantry.
