Florence M. Russell

Florence Marie Russell, 90, formerly of Ladd, passed away June 20, 2017 in Colonial Hall Nursing Home in Princeton. 

Private funeral services will be in the Hurst Funeral Home in Ladd with Deacon John Murphy officiating with burial in Valley Memorial Park.

Mrs. Russell was born in Spring Valley on September 8, 1926 to Anton and Catherine (Trogolo) Shimkus. She was a 1944 graduate of Hall High School and then attended St. Luke School of Nursing, in the Cadet nursing program in Chicago. On November 29, 1947, she married Thomas “Duke” Russell. She worked as a nurse for 32 years. Florence enjoyed traveling with her husband. They visited 49 of the 50 states. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was an avid Scrabble player.

Florence is survived by three daughters Ginny (Al) Ferrari of New Berlin, NJ, Mary Ellen (Maury) Reeves of Princeton, and Jill (Bill) Stumpf of Jonesburg; five grandchildren Andria (Jon) Ayer, Tom (Kerina) Ferrari, Lisa Hansen, Karen (Ben) VonFeldt, and Patrick Reeves; two great grandchildren Colin and Jamie Ayer; one brother Tony (Ann) Shimkus of Plainfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas on May 4, 2014, one sister, and three brothers.
