Evald “Evie” L. Anderson, 91, of Tonica died peacefully and surrounded by his family on July 11, 2017 in his home.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:30 AM Saturday in Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Leonore with Rev. Ray Guthrie officiating. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Streator American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 9:30 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Anderson was born in Granville on November 10, 1925 to Evald M. and Ester (Nielsen) Anderson. He served with the US Navy during WWII from 1943-1946. He married Marjorie Wiesbrock on August 30, 1952. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year. Mr. Anderson was a farmer all his life. He enjoyed camping and was a member of Twilight Travelers Club. He also enjoyed reading and country music. He and Marjorie spent many winters in Texas. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and the Lostant American Legion for 50 years.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife Marjorie of Tonica; one daughter Joyce (William) Obermiller of Leonore; two sons Robert (Lynn) Anderson of Tonica and William (Marsha) Anderson of Tonica; four grandchildren Shelly (Robert) Chase, Scott (Kelly) Obermiller, Todd (Christy) Anderson, and Adam (Jackie) Anderson; three step granddaughters Amy, Tracy and Angela; ten great grandchildren; ten step great grandchildren and four step great-great grandchildren; two brothers Paul (Janet) Anderson and Wesley (Connie) Anderson; three sisters Shirley (Bob) Steele, Janice Davis, and Susie (Dan) McFadden.

He was preceded in death by four brothers Harold, Jerry, Donny, and Robert, in infancy. Mr. Anderson was the oldest of 10 children.

Pallbearers will be Paul, Wesley, Todd, and Adam Anderson, Shelly Chase, and Scott Obermiller.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
