Edna M. Johnson, 92, of Tonica, passed away May 17, 2019 in St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Leonore with Pastor Dan Stalka officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Tonica. Visitation will be 5:30-7:30 PM Sunday in the Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica. Additional visitation will be 10:00 AM until time of services in the church on Monday. In honor of Edna, the family would like to invite everyone who wishes to wear pink.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Elizabeth on October 5, 1926 to Rev. Rudolph and Katherine (Schafer) Reichen. She married Arthur Johnson. She worked at the Tonica Grade School in the cafeteria.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and played the organ for the church for over 30 years. She was a seamstress and also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She lived the farmer’s wife life. Mrs. Johnson was a beloved grandmother that loved babysitting and was known for her pancakes and cinnamon rolls.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by three children Kenneth Arthur (Joan) Johnson of Chillicothe, Lynette (Michael) Scanlan of Rochelle, and Diane (Jon) Ryerson of Nichols, IA; grandchildren Eric B. Johnson of Huntsville, AL, Lee A. (Nicole Early) Johnson of Princeville, Dale A. Johnson of Spanish Fort, AL, Katherine E. Scanlan Carter of Rochelle, Adam P.K. (Lauren) Scanlan of Muskego, WI, Niki J. (Brad) Becker of North Liberty, IA, Heidi L. (Eric) Sojka of Lone Tree, IA, Zachary D. (Kirsten Turner) Ryerson of Longmont, CO, Sarah E. (Spencer) Bieri of Austin, TX; two step granddaughters Christina (David) Kuntz of Chillicothe and Karen (James) Bullock of Chillicothe; fourteen great grandchildren and one more on the way; two brothers Walter Reichen and Daniel Reichen; numerous nieces and nephews; a special friend Bruce Steele and his family of Tonica; a special family John Maggio of AZ, Jeanne Maggio of Lostant and their three daughters Amber, Rachel, and Lindsey; two foreign exchange students Christina and Pimmy; and a special family member Stacy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1999, and siblings Herbert, Ester, and Irma.
