Donna June Petersen

Donna June Petersen, 90, of Peru, went to meet her Lord on Saturday February 16, 2019 in Illinois Valley Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday in Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica with Rev. Nathan Lambie officiating.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Tonica.  Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until time of services on Saturday.

Mrs. Petersen was born in Waupaca, WI on May 2, 1928 to William and Augusta (Hanson) Madson. She married Forrest Petersen on December 20, 1951. The couple farmed for many years west of Tonica before moving into town.

When she decided to work outside the home, Donna took a position at Westclox where she worked for many years before hiring onto a position in the Tonica School District’s cafeteria. Her love of plants and flowers led her to apply for a job at Mid-American Growers where she worked until she retired.

Donna was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for most of her adult life where she taught Sunday school and vacation bible school, and she participated in various women’s Ministries including quilt making which raised funds for mercy giving to retirement homes and foreign underdeveloped countries. She later began attending Christ Family Foursquare in La Salle where she attended for 10 years. St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru, where her youngest son’s family attended, was her last church of membership. When Donna became most comfortable staying at home in her apartment, she treasured watching Christian television.

Donna is survived by two sons Kerry (Karen) Petersen of Peru and Jeffrey (Lisa) Petersen of Peru, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one sister Verna Scheik of Oconamawa, WI.

She was preceded in death by her husband Forrest, two children Paul and Mary in infancy, and five siblings.

Pallbearers will be Kerry, Jeffrey, Emily, Kyle, and Caleb Petersen, and Jim Scheik.
