Dixie L. Melvin, 79, of Streator, died surrounded by her family on June 25, 2017 in Parker Nursing Center in Streator.
Private graveside services will be at a later date in Cumberland Cemetery in rural Wenona. The Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Melvin was born in Centralia on June 20, 1938 to Mancil and Hazel (Jackson) Gass. She married Eugene B. Melvin in April of 1975. She worked at Thatcher’s/Anchor Glass Company in Streator. Also, she drove a school bus for the Streator preschool kids. Mrs. Melvin enjoyed making quilts with her sister.
Mrs. Melvin is survived by children James Melvin of Wenona, Cynthia (Mark) Luding of Streator, Bryon (Jenna) Melvin of Pontiac, Marlene Berninger of Streator, and Deanne (Robert Sr.) Etienne of Streator; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister Loretta Renken of Emden; three brothers Leroy (Sharon) Gass of Texas, Robert (Susan) Gass of Monticello, and Earl (LaDonna) Gass of Emden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene on July 19, 2016, son Terry Ross, and brother Eddie Gass.
