Charles Wallace “Wally” Lindgren, 85, of Wenona, died June 21, 2018 in St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday in Bethany Lutheran Church in Wenona with Rev. Joy Miller officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Streator American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be in Bethany Lutheran Church from 9:00 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona is handling the arrangements.
Wally was born in Wenona on July 29, 1932 to Edwin and Jennie (Flesburg) Lindgren. He married Marjorie “Marge” Janssen on February 18, 1956. He served with the United States Army Band for two years, stationed in Panama.
Wally enjoyed fishing and was an avid Chicago Cub Fan. He farmed for 60 years. After the farming, he was a custodian at Fieldcrest Wenona School and then worked at Flanagan Rehabilitation Center, retiring in 2010.
Wally was past president and member of Wenona Rotary, Wenona American Legion, served on the Wenona School Board for two terms, Bethany Lutheran Church and its Council and Building Committee, and served two terms as Trustee for Evans Township. Last year he was chosen for the Greater Peoria Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
He is survived by three daughters, Sandra (William) Luning of Wenona, Jane (Bob) Krischel of Wenona and Susan (Mark) Greskoviak of Peoria; one son Jerry (Vicki) Lindgren of Wenona; eight grandchildren, A.J., Ryan, Luke, Beth (Alex) Wilson, Nathan, Jared, Abby, and Grant; two great-grandsons, Connor and Dylan.
Wally was preceded in death by his wife Marge on January 13, 2015, a son in infancy Gary Lee, son-in-law Joseph Pitts, and two sisters, Lois Ahlstrom and Helen Ely.
Memorials may be made to Greater Peoria Honor Flight or Wenona Fire Department.
