Carl S. Dyer, 93, of Oglesby and formerly of Tonica, died November 9, 2017 in Illinois Veteran’s Home at La Salle.

Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Sunday in Fairview Cemetery in Tonica with Rev. Mark Nowakowski officianting.  Full military services will be conducted by the Tonica American Legion.  The Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica is assisting his family.

Mr. Dyer was born in Fort Smith, AR. on September 27, 1924 to Carl and Charlotte (Durham) Dyer.  He married Jean M. Grandon on February 16, 1946.  He served with the U.S. Army.  Mr. Dyer was a POW in Japan for 3 ½ years. He worked at Lowell Brickyards and then retired from Caterpiller in Aurora.  He was a member of Tonica American Legion and American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor Memorial Society.  Mr. Dyer was an avid golfer.  He was a member of Edgewood, Deer Park and Dayton Ridge Golf Courses. 

He is survived by one son James (Connie) Dyer of Oglesby, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and a daughter-in-law JoAnne Dyer of Ottawa.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jean on September 13, 2009 and two sons, Carl and Kim Dyer.
